DRAM 401  Performance Studies  Units: 3.00  
This course is intended for students to apply foundational theories of performance studies to a wide range of issues, contexts, and media, centring on the idea of performance as both an object of study and a means of analysis. Examples may be drawn from drama, dance, music, theatre, performance art, ritual, protest, and/or other areas.
Learning Hours: 120 (36 Seminar, 84 Private Study)  
Requirements: Prerequisite Level 4 or above. Exclusion DRAM 419/3.0 (Topic Title: Performance Art - Winter 2024); DRAM 419/3.0 (Topic Title: Performance Studies - Winter 2025).

Course Learning Outcomes:

  1. Define key concepts related to performance studies and identify the specific positions of highlighted theorists that intersect with those concepts.
  2. Assert a position and analyze scholarship by both historical and contemporary performance study scholars.
  3. Apply theoretical discourse to case studies across a range of disciplines and contexts, making connections between theory and practice.
  4. Demonstrate independent research skills with nuance and precision.
  5. Develop discursive group analysis and presentation skills.
