KNPE 446  Strength and Conditioning Internship  Units: 4.50  
This advanced experiential learning course will develop students' proficiency of strength and conditioning coaching for high-performance athletes. Through immersive learning, students will deepen their understanding of athletic performance while improving their communication, collaboration, and coaching skills. Students will lead training sessions, provide mentorship, and manage long-term development plans while critically assessing their coaching strategies. By the end of the course, students will have the experience needed to pursue careers in strength and conditioning and related fields.
NOTE Valid First Aid/CPR Certification required.
Learning Hours: 168 (120 Practicum, 24 Group Learning, 24 Private Study)  
Requirements: Prerequisite Level 4 or above and registration in a KINE Specialization and KNPE 346/4.5 and a cumulative GPA of 2.70 or higher and permission of the School.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  1. Communicate and collaborate professionally with an integrated support team (e.g., athletes, strength and conditioning staff, sports coaches, sports medicine, and peer coaches).
  2. Prepare, coach, and support high-performance training sessions in various sporting environments while exemplifying leadership skills through the mentorship of novice student coaches.
  3. Analyze the connections strength and conditioning principles have to rehabilitation, performance planning, coaching, and sports medicine through networking, independent research, and critical thinking.
  4. Create and critique evidence-based, comprehensive yearly strength and conditioning programs to maximize athlete well-being and performance.
  5. Engage in self-reflection on practical learning experiences and actively apply feedback to improve strength and conditioning coaching skills through observation, conceptualization, and experimentation.
