Human rights institutions play a significant but frequently neglected role in determining how the problem of racism and policing is represented and what measures are deemed necessary to address it. This talk explores the powers of the OHRC to address racism in - and through - policing. How has the OHRC employed these powers? And what lessons can be drawn from the OHRC's decades worth of reform efforts on the capacity for human rights institutions to reduce racial police violence and advance racial equity?
