Student Voices Week Equity Commons: Student Connection, Reflection & Collective Advocacy
Equity Commons is a student-led community gathering designed to create space for equity-deserving students, advocates, and allies to connect, reflect, and collectively identify ways Queen’s University and the AMS can better support student needs.
Rather than a highly structured forum, Equity Commons will operate as an open community commons where students can engage at their own pace. Participants may:
- connect informally with other student advocates and community members
- participate in peer-supported conversations around student wellbeing and community care
- contribute their experiences and ideas to inform AMS equity advocacy
Through a combination of informal conversation spaces and facilitated discussion hubs, the event aims to balance community-building and structured student voice, ensuring that lived experiences meaningfully inform future advocacy work. While the Equity Townhall typically facilitates dialogue between students and administrators, Equity Commons centers student-to-student dialogue and reflection, ensuring that advocacy priorities are grounded in authentic student experiences before they are brought to institutional decision-makers.
Insights gathered from the event will be compiled into a Student Equity Commons Summary to guide advocacy efforts with Queen’s University administration and inform future AMS initiatives.
