🎓 Degree Plans

New this year: The Faculty of Arts and Science has introduced Modular Degree Plans.

  • If you selected/changed your plan in Spring 2025, follow the 2025–2026&Բ;.
  • If you selected a plan prior to May 2025, consult the 2024–2025&Բ; or the 2023-2024 plan, depending on the year you started the plan.

📝 Course Registration 2025–26

&Բ;Note: FREN 106, 107, and 150 are no longer offered.

Placement Test Results & Next Steps

If your placement test recommends FREN 152 or says to “cDzԳٲ&Բ;francais@queensu.ca, French Studies Undergraduate Advisor,” you will need to be manually enrolled in the course(s) since we have to override the prerequisite.

Please follow the instructions below based on your situation.


1️⃣&Բ;If You Are Advised to Take FREN 152
🎒 First-Year Students

A. If you are planning to do a Major or Minor in French:

  • We recommend that you take FREN 152 in the Fall term, followed by FREN 219 in the Winter term.
  • Please email us during your enrolment appointment with your preferred tutorial number so we can manually enrol you in the course.

B. If you are taking French as an elective:

  • You can take FREN 152 in either term.
  • Please email us during your enrolment appointment with the term and your preferred lecture & tutorial number.
🧑‍🎓 Upper-Year Students Taking FREN as an Elective

Email us during Open Enrolment (starting July 31st) with the term and your preferred lecture & tutorial number so we can add you to the course.


2️⃣&Բ;If You Are Advised to Contact French Studies Undergraduate Advisor

If your placement test result says to "contact francais@queensu.ca," you are likely eligible to take FREN 219FREN 230, or FREN 231.

✅ What You Can Do:
  • Self-enrol in FREN 219
  • For FREN 230 and 231, manual enrolment is required:
    1. First-year students can be enrolled in these courses during their enrolment appointment time
    2. Upper-year students taking French as an elective can be registered when Open Enrolment begins on July 31st
📧 What to include in your email to francais@queensu.ca:
  • Student number
  • Year and program of study
  • Your background in French (e.g., francophone, French first-language school, French Immersion, Extended, IB French)
  • Whether you plan to take French is an elective or your goal is to pursue a degree plan in French
