All laboratories at Â鶹ÍøÕ¾ that use Chemicals, Biohazards or Radiation (inc. X-ray and Laser) must post a hazard door sign on their lab door.
Hazard Door Sign Instructions (PDF, 132 KB) - These instructions will guide you on how to use the new hazard door sign template and how to post it on your door. The biohazard and radiation portion of the door sign can only be used by labs that hold an active permit with the university. The chemical portion can be used by any lab that stores and uses chemicals.
Download the appropriate door sign template (1, 2, 3 hazards) and edit as described in the instructions. Also, download the zip folder containing the PPE symbols that can be inserted into the template and extract the content of the zip folder.
Edit each section of the sign to customize it to your lab work. Do not remove the Queen's Logo or EHS contact information from the sign. Also, do not adjust the size of the sign or the fonts. All cold/warm labs and cold/warm storage rooms at Queen’s University that contain biohazardous samples must have proper signage displayed on the outer door.
There are two types of cold/warm rooms:
Cold/Warm Lab-Biohazardous material is manipulated in this room.
Cold/Warm Storage Room-Biohazardous material is ONLY stored in this room.
Cold/Warm Lab & Storage Instructions—These instructions will guide you on how to use each type of room, what activities can be done inside, and which rooms must be listed on your permit or biohazard inventory. It is also advised to refer to SOP-Biosafety-11-Storage of Biohazard Samples.
Most cold/warm rooms are shared spaces on campus. Your space may be managed by your department, or individually. Please ensure all users have decided on what type of room it will be before posting a new door sign or contact your dept for more information.
