Student Positions
The Department of French Studies is seeking undergraduate students to serve as Teaching Assistants for FREN 118 (Fall 2025).
Job Duties
Teaching Assistants are primarily responsible for some grading tasks, leading tutorial sessions via Zoom, and communicating with students.
Successful applicants will have a contract of roughly 85-100 hours to be completed during the Fall 2025 term. At the beginning of the term, the course instructor will meet with you to explain how these hours will be distributed throughout the term.
Job Requirements
As this is an asynchronous online course with synchronous components, candidates must be prepared to work outside the regular 9-5 work week and have access to the internet and a computer that meets minimum requirements.
Previous TA experience with online courses, learning management systems (i.e. onQ) and videoconferencing software (i.e. Zoom or Adobe Connect) are an asset.
Teaching Assistants will complete mandatory training and preparation before the start of the course.

The Department of French Studies is seeking a Work Study student to assist in the administration and development of non-credit French conversation courses.
Job Duties
This role supports course setup, communication with participants, and resource development for instructors.
Fall & Winter Terms (Sept–Apr)
Hours: ~3 hrs/week
Wage: $17.60/hour
Key Responsibilities
- Track enrolment for Beginner, Beginner Plus, and Intermediate levels
- Prepare and send participant communications using templates
- Monitor and triage emails to support course operations
- Assist instructors with attendance tracking and other tasks
- Maintain curriculum outlines and develop lesson resources
- Issue Certificates of Completion to eligible participants
Qualifications
- Third-year undergraduate or higher
- Strong organizational and professional communication skills
- Ability to work independently on structured tasks
- French proficiency at B2 level preferred
- Interest in education and experience with office software an asset

In accordance with the collective agreement between Âé¶¹ÍøÕ¾ and Teaching Assistants (PSAC Local 901), applications are invited from qualified individuals for the following teaching assistant position in the Department of French Studies:
FREN 231/3.0 Rédaction et style (Fall Term)
A presentation of the principles of textual production in French as applied in the production of various types of texts.
FREN 231/3.0 Rédaction et style (Winter Term)
A presentation of the principles of textual production in French as applied in the production of various types of texts.
FREN 331/3.0 Rédaction et style II (Winter Term)
Acquisition of a deeper knowledge of the principles of textual production, with particular emphasis on the use of computer-based grammatical and lexicographic tools, and an examination of the stylistic constraints on textual production.

This TA contract combines all three courses with expected hours of 50 hours in the fall term and 80 hours in the winter term, totalling 130 hours across the fall and winter terms.
Some training and preparation is needed before the start of the course. Candidates must be prepared to work outside the regular 9-5 work week and have access to the internet and a computer that meets minimum requirements. Experience with learning management systems (e.g. OnQ) and videoconferencing software (e.g. Zoom or Adobe Connect) would be an asset.
The rate of pay is commensurate with the rates specified in the Collective Agreement of Teaching Assistants (PSAC).
TAships are filled according to Group Preferences set out in Article 12.04 of the Collective Agreement between Queen’s University and the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
In the appointment to TAships within the Bargaining Unit, the Employer shall with respect to graduate students follow the five level preference system outlined below. No TAships shall be offered to candidates in Group B until the qualified candidates in Group A have been exhausted. No TAships shall be offered to candidates in Group C until the qualified candidates in Group B have been exhausted. No TAships shall be offered to candidates in Group D until the qualified candidates in Group C have been exhausted. TAships may only be offered to candidates in Group E when there remain no qualified candidates in any other Group.
First Preference – Group A
Is for qualified graduate students for whom the TAship has been granted as part of the funding commitment offered by the Employer registered as:
- students in a department or program or Faculty in which the TAship will be offered; or
- students in an interdisciplinary program with TA budget resources.
Second Preference – Group B
Is for qualified full-time graduate students for whom there is no funding commitment offered by the Employer and who are registered as:
- students in a department or program or Faculty in which the TAship will be offered; or
- students in an interdisciplinary program with TA budget resources.
Third Preference – Group C
Is for qualified graduate students for whom the TAship will not form part of the funding commitment offered by the Employer and who are registered as:

- students in a department or program or Faculty in which the TAship will be offered; or
- students in an interdisciplinary program with TA budget resources.
Fourth Preference – Group D
Is for qualified graduate students that have previously held a TAship or TFship for the Employer.
Fifth Preference – Group E
Is for qualified graduate students that have not met the criteria as set out in 12.04 A, B, C, or D.
