Moving in or out off campus can easily become overwhelming and stressful, but a few tips can make the experience much easier. When I first moved out, I underestimated how much planning it would take and knew I would have to make some adjustments for the next time I moved.

Plan ahead! I made a checklist of everything that I needed to bring including furniture, kitchen supplies, and packed accordingly. This helped me to avoid stress while packing and avoid overpacking as well.

Documenting the space is helpful as well. Taking videos and photos of the house/apartment/unit will come in helpful for when you move out. This way, you will easily be able to dispute any minor scratches or damage that you did not do.

Finally, give yourself extra time. When it comes to moving in and out, things rarely go according to plan, so having a few buffer hours can prevent panicking and avoid stress about not having enough time.

Being organized and prepared made settling into my new houses a positive experience and taught me skills that I still use every year when it comes time to move back home for the summer.
